We understand that choosing to get breast augmentation is an incredibly personal decision. There are various options for the type of breast implant, where the incision is made, and where the implants will be placed in the chest. Dr. Kadz customizes each breast augmentation procedure to fit the needs of the patient. He’ll discuss your options during your consultation and listen to what you want. Dr. Kadz can also make recommendations on which breast augmentation options will work best to suit your bustline goals.

Types of Breast Implants

The four types of implants offered include saline, silicone gel, highly cohesive gel silicone, and high-strength cohesive gel silicone. Which implant will work best for you will depend on your medical history and what size, shape, and overall appearance you want your breasts to have.

  • Saline: Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water. They may be filled before the procedure or during surgery to allow for minor changes. When the implant is inserted while empty, a smaller incision is required.
  • Silicone Gel: Silicone implants are filled with a thick gel that is sturdy and able to maintain its shape. This material reduces the risk of the implant leaking in the case of a potential rupture. Silicone implants feel very similar to natural breast tissue.
  • Highly Cohesive Gel Silicone: Also called soft touch gummy bear implants, highly cohesive gel silicone implants are firm and known for holding their shape. These implants are often a good choice for women seeking a rounder and youthful breast profile.
  • High-strength Cohesive Gel Silicone: A more advanced version of the other cohesive gel silicone options, high-strength cohesive gel silicone implants are made of a thicker silicone material. They are firmer than other options and are also known as tight touch gummy bear implants.

Incision Location

During your breast augmentation, incisions are made so your surgeon can insert the implant into the breast pocket. There are a few locations where the incision can be created:

  • Periareolar incision: The incision is made around the bottom of the areola. The areola’s pigment typically conceals any scarring.
  • Inframammary incision: With this option, the incision is made under the fold of the breast or breast crease. Scars are easily hidden in this location.
  • Transaxillary incision: This incision is created in the armpit, allowing for optimal scar concealment.

Implant Placement

Your breast implants can be placed under or on top of the pectoral muscle.

  • Under the pectoral muscle: Also known as a submuscular placement, this placement allows for fewer complications with breastfeeding and mammograms.
  • On top of the pectoral muscle: Sometimes called a submammary or subglandular placement, this option helps the breast implants stay in place and not shift around when you move your chest muscles.

How Is Breast Augmentation Performed?

Before your breast augmentation surgery, general anesthesia will be administered so you won’t feel pain during the procedure. Dr. Kadz will create an incision in the chosen location (periareolar, inframammary, or transaxillary) to allow for the breast implant to be inserted. Once the incision is made, he will insert the implant into the breast pocket and make sure it is in the correct position. Once the implant is situated, the incisions will be closed.

What Is the Recovery From Breast Augmentation Like?

Everyone’s body heals at a different pace after having breast augmentation. After surgery, we’ll closely monitor you for around an hour to ensure everything is normal. Before you go home, you’ll receive comprehensive aftercare instructions, and we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment with Dr. Kadz.

You’ll have to wear a compression bra to minimize swelling and assist the healing process. Dr. Kadz may also prescribe medications to help relieve pain. During the initial portion of your recovery, it is essential that you refrain from any strenuous physical activity. Pushing your body too far while recovering from surgery can hinder the healing process. You’ll be able to take short walks, which is recommended to prevent blood clots from forming. Overall, you should focus on resting so your body can recover. Sleep on your back in an elevated position to avoid any pressure being applied to the breasts.

Make sure to check in with Dr. Kadz throughout your recovery so he can tell you when you are cleared for all activities.

What Results Can I Expect After Breast Augmentation?

After your surgery, you’ll be able to see a difference in your breasts immediately. However, the final results won’t be visible for a few weeks since it takes a while for all the swelling to go down. The compression bra that you wear during your recovery will help shape your breasts and settle the implants into your chest.
