Breast augmentation, commonly called a “boob job,” produces the beautiful curves many women crave. How long does it take to achieve those curves? The time required for breast enhancement varies based on factors like the type of implants used and the technique chosen for your procedure.
This blog covers the timing of a boob job in detail, from what you can expect while you are at our office on your surgery day to variables that could impact how long your surgery might take.

The Timeline for Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast augmentation is performed on an outpatient basis and typically takes one to two hours to complete. Dr. Kadz uses general anesthesia for all of his breast surgeries, so that you will be comfortably asleep throughout your procedure. In addition to the surgery time, you will spend time in our office before and after surgery. Most patients are in our office for around six hours on the day of their procedure before they are released to go home.
While breast augmentation typically takes one to two hours, most patients spend approximately six hours at our surgical facility from arrival through discharge.

Basic Steps of a Breast Enlargement Procedure
The first step in your breast augmentation journey is your initial consultation with Dr. Kadz. During this meeting, Dr. Kadz evaluates your areas of concern, answers your questions, and provides honest recommendations based on your anatomy and desired result. Together, you will create a personalized surgical plan designed to address your goals and achieve natural-looking, balanced results.
You may also have medical tests or blood work scheduled before your surgery to ensure your health and safety during the procedure. The results of these tests may also impact the timeline for your breast augmentation.
The day of your surgery will progress through the following stages:
Arrival and Preparation
When you arrive at our surgical center, you will change into your surgical gown. You will have an IV to administer fluids and your anesthesia. Our surgical team remains with you throughout the early process to answer questions and ensure you are comfortable.
Anesthesia
Your anesthesiologist will talk with you before administering your anesthesia to be sure you understand the process and don’t have additional questions. It will not take long for the anesthesia to take effect, allowing you to sleep through your procedure.
Surgery
Dr. Kadz will follow the surgical plan you discussed together at your initial consultation. He will create incisions in each breast so that he can place your implants into the underlying tissue. Once the implants are in place, Dr. Kadz will meticulously close up your incisions to create the best cosmetic result.
Recovery Period
You will remain in our recovery area until you awake from the anesthesia. Our team will monitor you until you are stable and able to get out of bed. You will be able to go home the same day as your surgery to rest and recuperate in the comfort of familiar surroundings.
Although most patients go home the same day, breast augmentation recovery continues over the following weeks as swelling improves and the implants settle into position.
Dr. Kadz and his team strive to make your surgical journey comfortable and positive.
Factors Impacting the Timing of Your Boob Job
Various factors may influence how long your breast augmentation takes:
Implant Size and Type
Because silicone implants are pre-filled before surgery and often require a slightly larger incision, their placement may require additional surgical time compared to saline implants.
Implant Placement
Breast implants can be placed under the chest muscle (submuscular) or over the muscle (subglandular). Placing them submuscularly requires more technical time during surgery, which may extend the procedure.
Combination of Procedures
Patients may choose to combine their augmentation with a breast lift to enhance the position of the breasts as well as their size. Other procedures, such as a nipple revision, tummy tuck, or liposuction, will also require a longer surgery.
