Sometimes the way that the fat is dispersed throughout the body can cause some places to lack volume while causing others to have stubborn pockets of fat. A Brazilian butt lift is a procedure that can smooth away some of these bulges while adding volume to the buttocks area.
At Kadz Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills, CA, we specialize in Brazilian butt lift surgery, using the newest methods and techniques to offer the best outcomes. Not only do we work hard to help you achieve your desired outcomes, but we also want to help you have a recovery that is fast and comfortable. Here is what you can expect from your BBL surgery and how you can promote a successful recovery.
What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL?
A Brazilian butt lift, sometimes called a BBL or butt augmentation, is a cosmetic surgery that involves taking fat from one area of the body through the use of liposuction and transferring it to the buttock area. The purpose of the surgery is to enhance the shape, curvature, and size of the buttocks while also sculpting areas where you may have unwanted fat.
How Is a BBL Performed?
Consultation
As we work towards the best BBL results, we always put a lot of emphasis on the initial consultation. A detailed consultation allows us to discuss your aesthetic goals, medical history, lifestyle, and more. During this appointment, your surgeon will assess your body shape and fat distribution and determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. When we meet with you, we will be able to make a plan for where the fat will be harvested from and where it will be grafted for the smoothest and most shapely result.
Pre-Operative Preparations
Depending on your situation, you may have a list of pre-operative instructions that should be carefully followed to promote a successful recovery. You may need to stop smoking or stop taking certain medications, and you should care for your body through adequate exercise and nutrition.
The Surgery
The first step of a Brazilian butt lift is liposuction to harvest the fat. We will mark the areas where fat will be removed. Next, tumescent fluid, which is usually a mixture of saline, drugs that control bleeding, and lidocaine, is used to loosen the fat. This is inserted to minimize trauma to the area and to make it easier to target and remove fat cells. Next, a cannula is inserted into small incisions in the target area which uses suction to gently remove the fat cells.
After the fat is harvested, it will be washed and prepared for transfer. The fat is placed into a syringe and then injected throughout the buttock area. Our process is strategic to allow for the smoothest contours and the most natural-looking shape.
What Is the Recovery Process Like?
Immediately After Your Surgery
Immediately after your butt augmentation, you will be moved to a recovery room. From this room, we can monitor your recovery for an hour or two and make sure it is safe to send you home. You will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery as you will not be able to drive yourself. The lidocaine used during the procedure will numb the area and reduce discomfort, but you may have some swelling and soreness.
The First Weeks After Your Surgery
It is important during the first two weeks after your surgery to avoid sitting or laying down on your buttocks. You will want to sleep on your stomach or on your side. You may still have some bruising and swelling, but this can start to subside as the week goes on. Wearing a compression garment can help to minimize swelling and give you support right where you need it. You can stay active by taking short walks around your home to increase blood circulation. Continue caring for your body by avoiding smoking and eating a nutrient-rich diet.
Two to Four Weeks After BBL Surgery
Once your surgeon gives you the all-clear, you can start using a special BBL pillow to sit down. This usually happens between two and four weeks but may be longer based on your situation. You may still be directed to sleep on your stomach or side to prevent extended pressure on the buttocks area. Many people can return to work or daily activities, but you may still be directed to avoid certain activities or exercises.
Long-Term Recovery After Your Brazilian Buttock Lift
Once you reach the six- to eight-week mark after your surgery, you will typically be feeling like yourself again and should be able to return to all of your normal activities, including normal sitting and sleeping positions. This is dependent on your situation and the advice of your surgeon since the healing process is unique for each person. Over the next six months, the new fat cells will begin to stabilize, swelling will go completely down, and you will be able to begin enjoying your results.
