Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is plastic surgery done on the nose. Rhinoplasty can be functional, cosmetic or both. Cosmetic rhinoplasty is done to improve the patient’s appearance, often by making the nose more proportionate with the rest of the patient’s face. Functional rhinoplasty is done to improve the patient’s ability to breathe through their nose. It can be done to repair an injury or to correct a congenital defect. In some cases, a person’s ability to breathe their nose declines with age. Some older people develop a condition called nasal valve stenosis in which the nasal valve or airway at the front of the nose weakens and falls inward. A nose job can strengthen the nasal valve and stop it from collapsing. Rhinoplasty is a very individualized procedure; each operation is tailored to what the patient needs and wants. Functional rhinoplasty, for example, can involve repairing a broken nose or straightening a deviated septum. Cosmetic rhinoplasty can involve changing the size of the nose, removing a hump or bump, changing the width of the nostrils, changing the tip, or altering the angle between the nose and mouth. This procedure can be open or closed. During an open or external rhinoplasty, the surgeon will make an incision along the columella or strip of tissue between the nostrils. During a closed or endonasal rhinoplasty, all of the incisions are made inside the nose. Depending on what is being done, the surgeon may reshape, remove, or add bone and cartilage to the nose. For example, if the patient wants a smaller nose tip, the surgeon will remove some of the cartilage at the tip. They will carve it away in such a manner that the remainder looks natural. A revision or secondary rhinoplasty is a procedure done to correct problems caused by the original rhinoplasty. Since the surgeon usually has less tissue to work with than during an original surgery, revision rhinoplasties tend to be more complicated and take longer. While an original rhinoplasty may take as little as an hour to complete, revision rhinoplasties often take at least three hours. What Is the Recovery Like? The patient may need pain relievers for the first two or three days after the procedure. The surgeon will put a splint on the patient’s nose to ensure that it retains its new shape. They will remove the splint and any stitches about six or seven days after the procedure. Bruising is common and will fade enough by the second week that the patient will feel comfortable in social situations. Swelling is also common and can take months to fade. Consequently, many patients may not see the full results of their surgery for as long as six months. Most patients can return to work within a week or two after the procedure. They should avoid strenuous activities for at least two or three weeks. The patient should not swim for at least a month; many people injure their noses swimming if they start too early. Since heat can make the nose swell, the patient should avoid sunlight, tanning beds, and sun lamps for at least six weeks after the procedure. The patient should not wear glasses or sunglasses that sit on the bridge of their nose for at least six weeks. If they need to wear prescription glasses, the doctor will teach them how to tape them to their forehead to avoid pressing down on their nose. The patient should follow all of the post-operative care instructions given to them by the surgeon. They should take only the medications recommended by their doctor. Since the patient will not be able to drive home after the surgery, they should make arrangements to have someone pick them up at the hospital. How Should the Patient Prepare? A healthy patient will get better results and heal more quickly. They should thus take steps to improve their health. For example, eating nutritious foods and drinking plenty of water can do wonders for your system. Since smoking increases the risks of complications like bleeding and slows healing, a patient who smokes should quit at least two weeks before the procedure. They should avoid smoking for at least another two weeks after their rhinoplasty to give their body a proper chance to heal. Similarly, they should avoid second-hand cigarette smoke. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and aspirin also cause bleeding. The patient should not take such medications for at least two weeks before the surgery. They should also avoid herbal supplements and Vitamin E for two weeks for the same reasons. On the other hand, they can take a multivitamin and acetaminophen. The patient should stay out of the sun as much as possible for two weeks before the procedure. If they need to go outside, they should use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Who Is a Good Candidate? The ideal candidate for a rhinoplasty will be someone in overall good health with realistic expectations. The patient needs to understand that, while an improved appearance could boost their confidence, it won’t help them get a better job or find a new lover. Similarly, the surgeon is limited in what they can do by the patient’s existing nose and face. Every patient has a different bone structure, musculature, and skin thickness. A patient who hopes to have a nose like that of their favorite actor is probably going to be disappointed. Plastic surgeons prefer to perform rhinoplasties on patients whose faces have reached “skeletal maturity” or stopped growing. Girls’ faces can be fully developed by the time they are 14 or 15 years old. Boys, on the other hand, continue growing for at least a year longer. One way to tell if a teenager might be a candidate for rhinoplasty is to check their feet. If a teenager’s feet have stopped growing and they haven’t changed shoe sizes in over a year, they may be physically ready. This restriction applies mainly to cosmetic rhinoplasties. If a ten-year-old breaks their nose, the surgeon will repair it. As their face changes as they reach maturity, their nose may no longer be in balance with the rest of their face. They may thus need another surgery as they reach adulthood. Plastic surgeons also want their patients to be emotionally mature and psychologically stable. They won’t accept anyone who shows signs of body dysmorphia, which is a chronic psychological disorder that causes the patient to obsess over their appearance, especially over perceived flaws that may or may not exist. People with the condition try to hide their flaws and improve their appearance – but they are never satisfied with the results or at least not for long. Similarly, people with other severe psychological problems like depression are not good candidates. People who in the middle of a crisis like a divorce or the recent death of a loved one are not good candidates. Plastic surgeons prefer to work with decisive patients who at least have some idea of what they want. They should know how they hope to look after the surgery. Plastic surgeons also prefer patients who are willing and able to educate themselves about the procedure and what they can realistically expect from it. They also prefer patients who will follow all of their instructions regarding preparation and post-operative care. The candidate also needs to be very certain that they want a nose job. They need to be getting it for themselves and not to please a spouse, lover, or someone else. As mentioned earlier, a candidate for a rhinoplasty has to be in good physical health. People with the following conditions are often not accepted as candidates for rhinoplasty: • Heart disease • Lung disease • Bleeding disorders • High blood pressure • High cholesterol • Obesity • Diabetes Patients with allergies to any of the drugs used during or after a rhinoplasty are not good candidates. The thickness of a patient’s skin can affect the results of a nose job. Generally speaking, patients with thin skin enjoy a number of advantages: they are less prone to swelling than are people with thick skin. Their swelling fades more quickly, and they are less likely to develop scars. On the other hand, thicker skin makes imperfections less visible, while thin skin can highlight them. Even worse, thin skin often becomes tighter after a surgical procedure. As it tightens, it can put pressure on the underlying bones or cartilage, sometimes to the point of deforming the nose. The Butt Lift That Squats Can’t Get You
There are two common approaches to improving the appearance and contour of your buttocks. Undergoing a series of buttock exercises such as squats and a cosmetic procedure known as a Brazilian Butt Lift. While squats are helpful, they focus more on muscle tone rather than appearance. Squats also can increase the size of your legs, which may be an unintended consequence of a harsh squat regimen. Brazilian butt lift procedures give targeted results that create a larger, curvier look that won’t be achieved via exercise. A Brazilian Butt Lift procedure uses liposuction to enhance curvature. This contours the lower part of the buttocks and gives you an aesthetic look you desire. This procedure is different from butt implants in that it works with your own fat from your body. Typically this is a safe procedure, but as with any procedure there are risks. As long as you follow any pre and/or post operation instructions your recovery should be smooth and will give way to maximum results. Just like with squats, a healthy lifestyle will be needed to maintain the results of the procedure. Squats are definitely a help to improving the look of your buttocks, but a Brazilian Butt Lift will enhance those results. Squats and other exercises will give your buttocks a more muscular appearance and firmer tone, while a Brazilian Butt Lift can increase the size and shape, giving you the “pop” you may desire. However, since this procedure uses fat from your own body, the results can be altered with weight gain or loss; the fat cells move to the buttocks will remain there from that point on. As with any procedures, it is important to have an informed conversation with your surgeon. An ideal candidate is within 15 pounds of their target weight. Dr. Kadz is a board-certified plastic surgeon with over twenty years of experience and can help you determine if this type of procedure is the right solution for you.
Which Breast Surgery is Best for You?
Breast Reduction Most likely when it comes to breast surgeries, this wasn’t the first thing on your mind. However, breast reductions can help reduce neck pain, back pain, skin irritation, bra strap indentations, and numbness or weakness from large, heavy breasts. This procedure removes excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue, and scarring can be extensive. Reductions of the breast appearance, volume, and contour occur while still maintaining breast sensation and function. Breast Reconstruction With a breast reconstruction procedure, the breasts are recreated with the desired appearance, contour, and volume. Recreation of the nipple-areola is also performed as well. Using implants or your own tissue are the two methods of this type of surgery, and if tissue is the method you use it can include tissue from the abdominal wall, back muscle or a segment of buttock. This type of surgery can help those who have previously had parts of their breasts removed from the treatment of breast cancer, it can help make your chest look more balanced in a bra or bathing suit, and can improve your confidence in how you see yourself. Breast Lift Whether your breasts show signs of sagging from age, childbirth, or even breastfeeding, this is a very popular procedure used to restore a youthful appearance. In some cases, it is merely a matter of the skin not strong or resilient enough to support the weight of the breasts, causing them to sag. By removing that excess skin, you can give your breasts a lift to improve your appearance. Breast Augmentation This procedure is often performed in addition to the breast lift procedure, as this is performed to enhance the appearance, size, and contour of the breasts. If you feel your breasts are too small, need to be altered after size loss due to pregnancy, or need a correction in symmetry, this is the procedure for you. By using implants placed over or under the pectoral muscle, your breasts can be shaped to fit your desire. Ultimately, the best thing to do is consult your surgeon before blindly choosing an option. With Dr. Kadz, a board-certified surgeon with over twenty years of experience, you can rest assured you will find the right solution for you.
Does Liposuction Work?
When you think of liposuction, you may have several things that come to mind. The questions of whether or not liposuction will work, however, is most likely the pressing question that has kept you from taking the leap. The problem with this question is there can be multiple answers depending on the person asking (what their body style is, what their lifestyle is, what they’re willing to continue or stop doing, etc.). The short answer to the question, “Does liposuction actually work?” is…yes. Liposuction works with the right goals in mind and if you’re looking for something like a fast solution to weight loss, liposuction procedures may not be the answer. It maybe not give you the results you seek. If, on the other hand, you are looking to shape and contour your body or remove fat from those difficult areas that exercise has been unable to shape, then liposuction will help you with those areas. Specifically speaking about the procedure itself, liposuction is the process of removing fat cells from a specific area forever. Aside from morbidly obese people or growing children, people have a finite number of fat cells that, if removed, won’t grow back. Here are some better questions to ask rather than simply, “Does it work?” Does Liposuction Prevent Me from Gaining Weight? Weight gain is still possible, and in fact is possible in the areas which have had liposuction performed. One of the differences may be that you gain weight in a more proportional way. For example, if you have a tendency to gain weight in your arms, you may still gain weight in your arms but not only in your arms. This creates a much more proportional weight gain that isn’t as noticeable. Are the Results Permanent? Again, the fat cells are permanently removed. However, your new contour and body shape aren’t going to be permanent without maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise regimen. Proteins, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low fat dairy are recommended to help maintain your new look. Will Liposuction Work for Me? This is the key question to ask, and the best thing to do is ask your doctor is what his or her recommendations are. With Dr. Kadz, being a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills for over 20 years, you can be sure they will help you make the right decision about liposuction and what it can do for you.
Cosmetic Procedures to Consider After Weight Loss
Cosmetic surgery after dramatic weight loss can now help you reduce excess skin and/or fat left behind. The goal is to restore your attractive proportions by removing sagging skin around your face, neck, upper arms, breasts, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs that creates a misshapen contour. While these procedures can leave scars, most clients find them to be a worthy trade for an improved appearance. With the help of your board certified surgeon Dr. Kadz, these scars can also be minimal. Here are several procedures you may consider after a dramatic weight loss experience. Tummy Tuck Also known as abdominoplasty, this procedure removes loose skin, fat, and stretch marks in your lower abdomen below your belly button. Permanent sutures will tighten your fascia (fibrous tissue) and most of the skin and fat between your belly button and pubic hair will be removed through a horizontal incision. Your incision is then close with sutures typically along the natural crease within the bikini line. Lengths of scars vary from client to client. Liposuction This can improve the contour of your hips, chest, thighs, neck, upper arms, and even your knees. It is typically performed alongside other procedures following weight loss. Your surgeon will make a small incision in the area the fat will be removed and then apply dressings to the incision (usually including a compression garment). Thigh Lift This surgical procedure removes extra skin and fat in your thighs, giving you tightened, toned, and better proportioned thighs. This procedure can be done in a number of different ways so it’s best to have a discussion with your surgeon who can suggest the appropriate course of action based on how much excess fat and skin you have, what type of skin you have, and the areas to be treated. Lower Body Lift This procedure reshapes several areas – your abdomen, waist, hip, thighs, and buttocks – through an incision made around the circumference of your body. This procedure is designed for people who have loose skin in all these areas as well as a thin layer of fat below the skin in those areas. Upper Arm Lift After dramatic weight loss, your upper arms can become loose and flabby. Arm lifts help to remove excess skin and fat deposits. The incision length depends on the exact amount and location of skin to be removed. The best way to get the most from this procedure is getting professional input from your surgeon.
How Versatile is Botox?
One of the most popular cosmetic treatments available on the market today, BOTOX® has many benefits. BOTOX® is largely known for treating stubborn facial lines caused by expressions. But that is just the beginning of what BOTOX® can do. BOTOX® is FDA approved to improve not only expression lines, but the lines on the forehead as well. BOTOX® injections can help relax those forehead muscles and help reduce lines and creases on your forehead. Previously, BOTOX® was approved for successfully treating the appearance of crow’s feet and frown lines near the eyes. It only makes sense that progression in this area would move upward on the facial muscles and treat the forehead as well. The FDA has also approved the use of BOTOX® for the treatment of migraines. Originally designed as a treatment for crossed eyes and eyelid spasms, doctors noticed during these treatments that patients were now reporting less headaches. Patients suffering from extreme migraines can receive injections once every three months. Proper treatments can cut the number of days you experience migraines in half. But it doesn’t just stop at the facial area. If you suffer from hyperhidrosis (also known as excessive armpit sweating), BOTOX® can help with that as well. Injections to the armpit block the nerves from reaching the sweat glands to reduce sweating. This can be used as a possible alternative to surgery for this issue, which also reduces the time you would need to heal. Perhaps one of the most surprising uses for BOTOX® is in the treatment and prevention of foot pain. Women wearing high heels, or people that are harder on their feet (like athletes), BOTOX® is considered to be an orthopedic option to reduce foot pain. This can also help with overactive sweating or tight muscle contraction of the calves. BOTOX® is not just for wrinkles. When most people think of BOTOX®, they likely think of treating a few wrinkles here and there on the face, but as you can see that’s simply the starting point for all that BOTOX® is capable of. If you’re considering BOTOX® treatments as an option for any of the above, be sure to speak with Dr. Kadz and his team to find out what the right solution is for you.
