What Is the Right Age for a Brow Lift?

Sagging or drooping brows can age your appearance by several years, not to mention horizontal lines on the forehead and frown lines between the eyebrows. Treating the upper face can be challenging since dermal fillers aren’t typically used in this area, and neurotoxins can only treat certain types of wrinkles. What can you do to achieve a more youthful-looking appearance then? Dr. Bruce Kadz in Beverly Hills, CA knows that a brow lift can revitalize your appearance so you can achieve a more youthful aesthetic.

What Is the Right Age for a Brow Lift?

In general, because a brow lift is commonly used to treat age-related concerns, most people who use this procedure are between the ages of 40 and 65. By middle age, your skin will not produce enough collagen to maintain the structure, tone, or position of the skin. With less collagen in the sub-dermal layers of your skin, age-related concerns like fine lines and wrinkles begin to develop. On the upper face, these visible signs of aging also present as sagging brows.

Drooping brows, sagging brows, and other signs of aging on the upper face can add several years to your overall appearance. People between the ages of 40 and 65 typically have moderate to severe signs of aging on the upper face that make them ideal candidates for this procedure. That said, some younger people (like people in their mid to late 30s) may also use this treatment to rewind the clock.

What Can This Procedure Treat?

Although this procedure is called a brow lift, it can address several other signs of visible aging. You can think of this procedure as a targeted facelift for the upper face. Virtually all visible signs of aging from skin laxity, fine lines, and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes can be corrected with this procedure. The most common concerns that can be treated with this procedure include:

  • Sagging brows
  • Horizontal forehead wrinkles
  • Frown lines or glabellar lines
  • Drooping upper eyelids
  • Excess skin on the upper face
  • Crow’s feet
  • Restore natural eyebrow arch

This procedure is customized to your exact aesthetic needs. Because everyone ages at a different rate and because factors like your genetics or skin type will determine the severity of your visible aging, your cosmetic procedure must be tailored to your exact needs. Some people use this procedure to only correct the appearance of sagging eyebrows, while others use this procedure to correct a vast range of appearance concerns on the upper face.

How Does This Procedure Work?

Several techniques will be used to correct the appearance of your age-related concerns, including a coronal lift, endoscopic lift, and subcutaneous lift. The specific techniques used for your procedure will be determined by Dr. Kadz after he examines your face, particularly the muscle activity that occurs when you make facial expressions.

Factors such as the position of your eyebrows, the amount of excess skin you have on your upper eyelid, and even the height of your hairline will also be used to determine which surgical technique will be used for your procedure. That said, a coronal lift is the most common and reliable technique, since it allows for the removal of excess skin and can lift your eyebrows to a better, more aesthetically pleasing position.

How Should You Prepare for the Procedure?

This procedure will likely involve the use of general anesthesia and some invasive surgical techniques, so you need to prepare for your treatment properly. The most important rule you will have will be to stop using any blood-thinning medications or supplements about a week before your procedure, unless otherwise instructed by your physician.

You may be asked to adjust certain medications. You may also be instructed to temporarily stop smoking or using tobacco products. Do not drink 24 hours before your appointment. Additionally, you may need to complete certain labs and evaluations before your surgery to verify that you are healthy enough for the procedure.

What Should You Do After the Procedure?

Just like any other invasive plastic surgery technique, you will have extensive post-procedure instructions to follow during your recovery period. During the first few days after your procedure, you will be instructed to elevate your head while resting, take medications prescribed to you, and use cold compresses frequently. You should avoid exposing your incisions to pressure, motion, hot water, or steam.

About 10 days after your procedure, any sutures will be removed from your surgical site; if sutures were not used to close your incisions, you will still need to attend a check-up appointment to assess your healing. We may give you additional instructions to help you get through your recovery period successfully.

How Long Is Your Recovery?

Your initial recovery time for this procedure will take 10 to 14 days. After you have seen Dr. Kadz for a check-up, you will likely be allowed to resume most normal daily activity around two weeks after your surgery. You may still have some restrictions, such as avoiding strenuous exercise or excessive sweating. But for the most part, you should expect your immediate recovery period to only last for two weeks.

That said, you may need several more weeks before you are fully recovered. The rate of your recovery will depend on how quickly you heal and how invasive the techniques for your survey were. If an invasive technique was used, your recovery period will likely be a little longer.

How Long Will Results Last?

The results of this procedure will last for several years. Although this treatment can rewind the clock to help you look younger, it will not prevent the effects of future aging on your skin. In other words, the natural aging process will catch up with you eventually. For people who use this procedure when they are younger, the results of the surgery may last for more than 10 to 12 years. On average, most people should expect results that last for at least a decade.

Can You Combine This Procedure?

Yes, this procedure is frequently combined with other plastic surgery techniques. For example, your brow lift may also be combined with a facelift, a mid-facelift, or a skin tightening technique on other areas of the face and neck. Yoru surgery may also be combined with other aesthetic techniques, such as dermal fillers, neurotoxins, facials, and other treatments.

If you would like to combine this procedure with others, please let us know during your consultation so we can help you plan a treatment timeline that will meet all of your aesthetic expectations. From non-surgical techniques to additional plastic surgery procedures, Dr. Kadz will help you look and feel your best.

Who Are Good Candidates?

Most people who have age-related concerns on the upper face may be eligible for this procedure. However, there are specific factors that must be met to qualify for this procedure, particularly because there are many people who will benefit from injectable treatments or alternate procedures. Aside from your age, some of the factors that are used to determine candidacy for this treatment include:

Skin Condition

The texture and suppleness of the skin around the eyes are thinner than the skin in other areas of the face. This may be why some people feel that the visible signs of aging show up on the upper face more quickly than in other areas. The condition of your skin is particularly important for this procedure. As you age, your skin will naturally lose volume and elasticity, which is what creates fine lines and wrinkles. For this procedure, your skin condition should be moderate to severe in terms of aging.

Your Health

Like many other invasive procedures, your overall health is also very important to qualify for this procedure. The best candidates are those who are in good current health, people who are not currently pregnant, and people who do not smoke or use tobacco products. Labs and examinations may be used to judge your health before you can schedule your procedure appointment.

Revitalize Your Appearance With a Brow Lift

If you’re looking for a procedure that can greatly improve your overall appearance by correcting visible signs of aging on the upper face, then a brow lift might be an ideal procedure for you. This procedure can be used to correct most age-related concerns on the upper face, including sagging eyebrows and drooping eyelids.
