BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift)

A BBL, also known as a Brazilian butt lift, is one of the most commonly requested cosmetic procedures in the world. If you’re looking to improve your contours, this procedure, offered at the office of Dr. Bruce Kadz in Beverly Hills, CA, may be right for you. Here’s what you need to know.

What Is a Brazilian Buttlift?

A Brazilian butt lift is a popular, effective way to improve contours. What makes it so effective is unwanted fat is removed from the body and used to augment the buttocks naturally.

How Long Does This Procedure Take?

How long your procedure takes depends on numerous factors, such as how many areas you are removing excess fat from and how much fat needs to be added to your buttocks. Typically, this procedure takes between two and three hours. If it is performed in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures, like a breast reduction or arm lift, it can take four hours or longer. We will discuss this with you in greater detail during your initial consultation.

How Does This Procedure Work?

Your BBL will start with liposuction, a fat removal procedure that has been used for decades. Liposuction involves suctioning out unwanted fat from the harvest sites through a cannula. Once the excess fat is removed, it will be processed. The suctioned fat cells will be cleaned and the damaged fat cells will be discarded. Once enough healthy fat cells have been collected, they will be placed in the buttocks near blood vessels.

Where Can Unwanted Fat Be Removed From?

Unwanted fat can be removed from virtually any region of your body. It is most commonly removed from the hips, thighs, back or abdomen. However, excess fat can also be harvested from the chest and upper arms. During your initial consultation, we will evaluate the regions of your body you would like to slim down. Then, we will advise you on whether those areas are ideal for harvesting.

If there isn’t enough fat in your trouble area to augment your buttocks adequately, you may have enough fat in the area for liposuction to be effective. In other words, you can use liposuction to improve contours regardless of whether they qualify as harvest sites.

What Can I Expect From the Results of This Procedure?

Your Ideal Aesthetic

The most incredible benefit of a Brazilian butt lift is it can be used to perfect your appearance. This procedure doesn’t just enhance your curves naturally. It also eliminates unwanted fat from essentially any trouble area you have, including small areas like your underarms or the backs of your knees.

No More Cellulite

Another incredible benefit of this procedure is it smooths stubborn cellulite. If you desire a rounder, fuller, more lifted butt and you have tried seemingly everything to smooth away upper thigh cellulite, this procedure is the perfect solution for you. As an added bonus, you can improve the symmetry of your upper body and lower body by eliminating unwanted fat from your upper body while augmenting your buttocks.

Your Clothes Will Fit Better

Another benefit you can expect after this procedure is your clothes will be far more flattering. By augmenting your buttocks naturally, you will look better whether you are wearing your favorite bikini or a killer pair of jeans. Clothes will also fit your torso and arms better once you remove stubborn excess fat that refused to budge despite years of dieting and working out.

You will even find the confidence to try on outfits you may not have even considered before your procedure. After your BBL, the world will be your oyster and your wardrobe options will be limitless.

What Else Should I Expect After My Procedure?

A Brief Observation

If you received general anesthesia or local anesthesia and a strong sedative, we will observe you after your procedure to ensure you are alert enough to go home. Once you’re alert, we will review your post-op care instructions one last time. After that, you will be free to ride home. Remember, you can’t drive within 24 hours of receiving any medication that may cause drowsiness, like general anesthesia.

Rest and Relaxation

Once you’re home, it’s important that your only focus is on rest and recovery. If you feel drowsy, take a nap. If you’re feeling peckish, eat a snack. For the most part, you should be listening to your body. The only exception to this is that you should drink at least eight ounces of water per hour, even if you’re not feeling thirsty.

We strongly encourage you to arrange for childcare and pet care so you don’t have to worry about taking care of anyone in your household besides yourself. If possible, arrange for someone to stay with you for at least the first 24 hours post-op so you don’t have to move unless you want to.

Active Recovery

After the first 24 hours post-op. You should walk regularly to support a strong circulatory system. Your circulatory system is responsible for delivering all the micronutrients your skin needs to heal after your procedures and your recovery will be faster if you move regularly.

You may still feel groggy after the first 24 hours post-op because your body requires a lot of energy to heal itself. Nap whenever you feel the need to and be sure to rest after your walks. If you feel tired, listen to your body.

How Long Do the Results of This Procedure Last?

Once the transplanted fat cells have attached themselves to the local blood supply, they will survive forever. Keep in mind, when we make the initial injections, we add a bit more volume than is necessary to achieve your desired aesthetic.

We do this because not all of the fat cells will take hold when they are implanted. However, if you lose a significant amount of weight after your procedure, the fat cells in your buttocks may shrink and you may need a follow-up procedure.

The Longevity of the Fat Removal Results

The results of liposuction are also considered permanent because adults cannot grow new fat cells. Therefore, once the fat cells are removed from the donor sites, such as the abdomen or back, they are gone forever. However, as with the augmentation results, your results may fade over time. If you gain weight after your procedure, the remaining fat cells in the donor site may expand noticeably.

How Can I Ensure the Best Results?

As noted above, for the shortest possible recovery, you need to get plenty of sleep. That said, you should understand it is imperative to sleep on your stomach during your recovery process. If you sleep on your back, too much pressure may be put on the transplanted fat cells and they may suffocate before they take hold permanently.

You should also take care to avoid placing too much pressure on your buttocks when you sit. We recommend a donut pillow to keep pressure on your buttocks to a minimum.
