When thinking about breast implants, there’s more to consider than just size. There are three main types of breast implants to choose from, and each one comes in various sizes and profiles. The main difference among implant types is what material they’re filled with and how they feel to the touch.
Saline implants are made from a silicone shell, which is placed in your breast and then filled with a predetermined amount of saline solution. This type of implant usually provides a firm, round appearance that’s ideal for women who want to restore volume to their upper breast area.
Another advantage of saline implants is that in the event of a rupture — which is rare — your body will safely reabsorb the sterile saline solution.
Like saline implants, silicone implants also have an outer shell made of silicone. However, this type of implant is filled with silicone gel before the surgeon places it under your skin. Many people find that silicone implants are softer than saline implants and look and feel a little more like real breasts.
Gummy bear implants are a specialized type of silicone implants that provide a natural-looking middle ground between saline and silicone. They are filled with a thicker gel than regular silicone implants, which gives them a slightly firmer feel. But they are still softer and yield to touch more than saline implants.
Gummy bear implants are said to closely resemble the look and feel of the full, natural breasts of a younger woman. In addition, gummy bear implants are known for holding their shape for many years.

Each incision requires a slightly different placement, but regardless of incision type, our high degree of precision and skill allows for minimal and discreet scarring that won’t distract from the final results.
A transaxillary incision is a small incision — about one inch long — made in a hidden location under your arm. This type of incision follows the natural curves of your armpits and stays out of sight after surgery.
A transaxillary incision is ideal for individuals getting saline implants or small silicone implants. However, the surgeon cannot properly place larger silicone implants using this incision technique.
A periareolar incision is one that follows the natural border of your areola. By placing the incision here, the scarring is easily disguised by the natural change in color and texture around the border of your areola. This type of incision gives the surgeon direct access to the breast tissue and allows for precise placement of the saline implants.
Like the transaxillary incision, a periareolar incision is not large enough for silicone or gummy bear implants.
The inframammary approach involves a larger incision directly below the breast. This allows us to access the breast tissue and muscle to properly place silicone and gummy bear implants. Despite being a larger incision, the surgeon can still easily conceal it in the breast fold.
